Imigration Points Based System Workshop

The United Kingdom Points Based Immigration system was introduced from 2008.  It is composed of five tiers which replaced all previous work permit requirements, and regulates the eligibility of non-EEA nationals to work and study in the United Kingdom. The legislation, which is constantly evolving according to labour market requirements, is accompanied by complex guidance which can be confusing and difficult to interpret by potential employers.

This half day workshop is aimed at medium to large companies, with particular relevance for HR officers and managers. The course gives a practical overview of the United Kingdom Border Agency Immigration Points Based System with relation to obtaining sponsor licences, understanding the legislation and employers’ responsibilities; eligibility checking of prospective employees and the verification of their right to work in the UK.

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • Understand the key principles which underpin the Points Based System (PBS) including licensed sponsors, sponsor registers, Certificate of Sponsorship, responsibilities and compliance
  • Describe the process and requirements for obtaining a sponsor licence and conditions under which that licence can be revoked
  • Give an overview of the criteria a prospective employee must fulfil in order to be eligible to work in the UK
  • Understand the concept of credibility with regard to an applicant’s eligibility to work in the UK
  • Describe employers’ responsibilities under the current equality legislation
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the concept of ‘detection points’ in connection with document checking and a basic ability to detect falsified documents and supporting paperwork
